The projects funded by the multilateral development partners are popularly known as donor funded projects. Many contractors prefer to participate in these projects. Beacuase, it is believed that the procurement process of these projects are more systematic and more fair.
The major development partners of Bangladesh are Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB), Islamic Development Bank (IDB), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, Aus Aid, German Aid Agency (GTZ), UK Department for International Development (DFID), Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), Japan Debt Cancellation Fund (JDCF) etc. Almost all the mega projects have foreign funding. Procurement of foreign aided projects are normally guided by the guidelines of that agency instead of PPR. International open tendering is very much common in such projects. So these are good opportunities for the big firms.
