প্যাকেজের বিবরণ: The primary source of energy in Bangladesh is domestic natural gas. However, the demand for gas has been rising sharply, while production continues to decline, thereby widening the gap between supply and demand. To address this shortfall, Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX), has undertaken comprehensive programs aimed at expanding exploration and production activities across the country. Under Petrobangla’s program to drill 50 wells by 2025 and 100 wells and workover operations during 2025–2028, BAPEX has planned to implement a drilling program in two phases at Sundalpur and Begumganj. In the first phase, 8 wells and in the second phase additional 4 wells making a total of 12 wells drilling planned under this initiative.
The gas demand in parts of Noakhali, Lakshmipur, and Feni districts ranges from 15–32 mmscfd. To meet this demand gas is being supplied from BAPEX’s Sundalpur and Begumganj fields and GTCL’s Feni ICS. Under Petrobangla’s 50/100 well drilling plan, BAPEX aims to produce up to 100 MMscfd of gas from this region by 2027 among which only from the 5 wells at Begunmanj have potential to supply 50mmscfd gas. To utilize this potential, transmission pipeline from Begumganj to the nearest point of the national gas grid need to be constructed. The nearest point of the national gas grid of this region is Feni ICS. So, a gas transmission pipeline needs to be constructed from Begumganj to Feni.
Besides that, there is potential of supplying another 50 mmscfd gas from Sundalpur, Noakhali and Subarnachar. So, it will be necessary to connected these points with the national gas grid as well. For establishing the connectivity between these points with the national gas grid (a) Begumganj-Feni (b) Sundalpur-Begumganj (c) Noakhali- Begumganj Gas Transmission Pipelines need to be established.
